Eva Karatairi is a science journalist and social media content creator with a strong academic background in materials science and chemistry. She holds a PhD in Materials Science from the University of Patras (2012), a master’s degree in Materials Science from the National Technical University of Athens (2007), and a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the Ethnikon kai Kapodistriakon Panepistimion Athinon (2005). Her PhD thesis was on the interactions of quantum dots with liquid crystals, an interdisciplinary project that she conducted at the NCSR “Demokritos” in Athens. While there, she was also involved in various biophysics and chemistry projects.
Over the last ten years, Karatairi has written on scientific topics for a variety of audiences, from general readers to experts. She began her writing career as a freelance science journalist for the Materials Research Society Bulletin, where she wrote articles and features on renewable technologies, physics, and electronics. In April 2022, she entered the world of social media for science and is currently a freelance copywriter and content creator for a leading biotech/agriculture venture capital firm. Since September 2023, she also collaborates with the ReACT Team in the National Observatory of Athens as a communication manager, and with the NCSR Demokritos as an external collaborator for their social media content. She has also created numerous science communication projects and workshops for children. Eva Karatairi is passionate about empowering people to understand science and its potential to improve the world. She is inspired by the basic scientific principles and the technological innovations that shape our daily lives.
