PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Georgios Balasis received a BSc in Physics from the of University of Athens (Greece) in 1995, followed by an MSc in Geophysics from the University of Edinburgh (UK) in 1997, an MSc in Condensed Matter Physics in 1998 and a PhD in Physics in 2001 both from the University of Athens.

He worked for 4 years at the GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam in Germany as a Research Associate of the Earth’s Magnetic Field Section. He returned to Greece in 2006 as an Assistant Researcher at the National Observatory of Athens, in 2009 he was promoted to Associate Researcher, in 2013 to Senior Researcher, and in 2018 to Research Director.

RESEARCH
INTERESTS

His primary interest lies in Space Physics, with a focus on the dynamics of the magnetosphere and space weather forecasting using wavelet analysis techniques and complex system theory concepts.
