Emilios Haimis, born in 1902, was originally from the island of Corfu. He obtained his BSc in Chemistry from the University of Athens and he was hired at the Observatory of Athens on April 14, 1926. Up until his retirement in 1965 he was observing almost exclusively using the meridian telescope which was determining the official time of Greece.
