Alexandros Chiotellis is an astrophysicist working in research, science communication and inclusive education.
He holds a degree in Physics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, a Master’s degree in Astrophysics from Utrecht University and a PhD from the University of Amsterdam (2013), focusing on the interaction of Type Ia supernova remnants with circumstellar structures. He also has university training in special education, is a certified Braille instructor and has a basic knowledge of Greek Sign Language.
He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing (IAASARS) of the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) in 2014–2016 and 2019–2021, focusing on magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the evolution of supernova remnants and planetary nebulae. From 2016 to 2019, he served as a scientific advisor to the General Secretariat for Research and Technology.
Since 2023, he is collaborating with NOA, undertaking press and science communication coordination responsibilities in the President’s Office during 2023–2024. Since 2025, he has been the scientific lead of PLEIADES, a team dedicated to inclusive science outreach for vulnerable social groups. His responsibilities have included the design, scientific leadership and coordination of European and National educational projects focusing on the education of children with visual impairments (Touching the Sky — Erasmus+), connecting science and society (PICO – New Horizons — MSCA Citizens), and international student experiments (“The Geosphere Experiment”, “The Hipparchus Experiment”). Since 2023, he has also worked as a secondary school teacher.
