PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Margarita Metaxa obtained her BSc in Physics, as well as her PhD in Astrophysics, from the University of Athens. Since 1987, she has been working as a high school teacher at the well known Arsakeio School of Athens. She has been a collaborator of the National Observatory of Athens on various projects related to astronomy education for students and the general public, since 1997. One of her main activities at NOA has been the coordination the annual Astronomy Summer School, which is aimed towards talented senior high school students from the Athens metro area.
RESEARCH
INTERESTS
Her research interests are related to astronomy education, with over 40 publications on this topic. She has been the Greek coordinator for 8 astronomy projects sponsored by various European and International Organizations including UNESCO, ESO, as well as the Greek Ministry of Education. Since 2000 she is a member of the International Astronomical Union including Commission C1, which is related to Astronomy Education, as well as Commission B7 which addresses the topic of light pollution.
