PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Emmanouil Salas received his Bachelor’s Degree, from the University of Patras, with focus on Applied Geology. He holds a M.Sc. Degree in Geoinformatics from the School of Rural, Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA, Athens, Greece). In his M.Sc. studies, he focused on Remote Sensing and Terrain Analysis, using Deep Learning and Pattern Recognition algorithms. At present he is a PhD student on Geomorphological mapping with artificial intelligence, pattern recognition and geomorphometry methods at the School of Rural, Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineering, NTUA.

Since 2022, he has been active in the private sector as a freelance geologist and has been involved in most projects in the field of geosciences. Such projects are River Basin Management Plans for tree Basin Districts of Greece, Flood Risk Management Plans for two Basin Districts of Greece, Local development plans, Master Plans of drinking water amongst other. Through his work, he has gained significant knowledge, in efficient use of GIS tools, geospatial coding and the development of automated solutions for the process of geospatial data.

Since late 2024, he has been working as a research associate at the Operational Unit “BEYOND Centre of EO Research & Satellite Remote Sensing”, in the scientific fields of Earth observation through satellites, Geoinformatics, and Natural Hazards.
