Alexandros Psychogyios is a PhD candidate at the University of Crete (UoC) under the supervision of Prof. Vassilis Charmandaris. He received his Degree in Physics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) in 2009, with specialized courses in Astronomy. In 2011, he graduated from the University of Crete with a master degree in Advanced Physics. In January 2013, he has started his PhD at University of Crete. His PhD thesis is related with the morphology of LIRGs and the relation between non-parametric coefficients and fundamental properties of galaxies such as the specific star formation rate (sSFR) and dust temperature. As of September 2015 he has started a collaboration with Dr. Marina Vika at the Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications & Remote Sensing (IAASARS) in Athens in the context of his last thesis project.

  Research Interests

Morphological classification of Luminous Infrared Galaxies (LIRGs) and clusters of galaxies using parametric and non-parametric coefficients in optical and near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths. Star Formation Rates (SFR), Infrared excess (IRX) and beta slope in (U)LIRGs.
