Thanassis Katsiyannis' Homepage

Welcome to my homepage! I am a researcher at the National Observatory of Athens (2006-present). Previously I was employed at the Royal Observatory of Belgium as an astronomer (2004-2006) and the Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland, as system administrator (1998-2001) and Leverhulme Trust Fellow (2001-2004). I obtained my PhD from the University of Manchester in 1998, under the supervision of Prof. J. Meaburn.

My research interests include:

  • Solar Corona (space and ground based observations of coronal loops)
  • Extended Halos of Galaxies (low surface brightness, wide angle observations)
  • Development of Algorithms for Processing Astronomical Data

As administration duty, I am responsible for the information technology (IT) infrastructure of the new 2.3 meter Aristarchos telescope.
