IAA Summer School

The Summer School for High School students in Greece is an initiative for the Educational System of Greece that started in 1996. It is a cooperation between the
Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics

and the
MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, LIFELONG LEARNING AND RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS

The aim of the Summer School is to introduce students to the basic concepts of the science of Astrophysics and to methods of research. Additionally, students will understand the Astronomy's great influence on our culture and on our perception of ourselves and of the world around us.

The school is organized once a year, in early September, and lasts three to four days. About 60 students participate in the school. In addition to the number of lessons in modern Astronomy and Astrophysics presented by researchers of IAA and guest astronomers, projects development by the students is included as well. At the end, the students present the result of their work. They also participate in a night-time observation with the 60cm telescope. The Summer School awards Certificate of the School to the students.
