We have strong links and collaborations with major Research Institutes and Universities abroad including the European Southern Observatory (ESO), NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (USA), the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (USA), the Imperial College (UK), the Royal Observatory Edinburgh (UK), the University of Manchester (UK), the University of Leicester (UK), the University of St. Andrews (UK), the Observatory of the University of Bonn (Germany), the Astrophysical Observatory of Potsdam (Germany), the Institute d'Astrophysique de Paris (FR), the Centre de Donnees astronomiques de Strasbourg (FR), the Observatoire de Bordeaux (France), the Kapteyn Institute of Astronomy (Nederlands), the Instituto Nacional de Astrofisica, Optica y Electronica (Mexico).

Apart from the construction of the new ARISTARCHOS telescope we are participating in a few large-scale research projects. For example, the programme "X-ray Astronomy with ESA's mission XMM" is funded jointly by the European Union and the Greek Goverment. Its primary goal is to analyse XMM fields in order to detect groups of galaxies and obscured AGN. Another project is the European Union TMR Network POE led by the Imperial College which has as its goal to explore the origin of the Extragalactic Background Radiations.

Publications
Our Institute presents a strong research record. Despite our small size, we maintain a good publication record with over 60 publications in International top class refereed Journals for the period 2002-2004.

Observations
We are highly sucessful in the allocation of X-ray optical and IR telescope time through refereed international panels.
For example, we are leading or participating in numerous scientific programmes with the X-ray missions Chandra (NASA), XMM (ESA). We have participated to the HIPPARCOS (ESA) and DIVA (DLR) astrometric missions and to the preparation of the ESA cornerstone mission GAIA.
We regularly obtain observing time in large optical telescopes such as ESO's VLT, Keck, William Herschel, UKIRT and Anglo-Australian telescopes.
