Postdoctoral Research Fellowships Opportunity at the National Observatory of Athens, Institute of Astronomy & Astrophysics (IAA)

Applications are invited for postdoctoral fellowships (2-3 year duration) at the IAA, which will be sponsored by the Greek Ministry of Education, following a process similar to that of the european Marie Curie fellowships. The selected candidate (by the IAA) will submit an application under the guidance of a local PI to the Ministry of Education, which will be reviewed by an international selection committee.

The fellowships provide support for observing, travel, computing, and publication and are limited to candidates with a PhD granted in the past 7 years, but before the application deadline on November 20, 2010: http://www.gsrt.gr/default.asp?V_ITEM_ID=6677

Fellows will have access to the OPTICON facilities and the 2.3 m Aristarchos telescope, once it is fully operating.

Interested applicants must contact a staff member of the IAA working in their field of interest, who will serve as their PI. The IAA has an active group of researchers in the following areas:

Solar Physics (Katsiyannis)

Space Instrumentation (Katsiyannis)

Extrasolar Planets (Boumis)

Massive Stars (Bonanos)

ISM SNRs, PNe, LBVs (Boumis)

ISM Galaxies (Xilouris)

Infrared Astronomy (Xilouris)

AGN evolution & physics (Georgantopoulos, Georgakakis)

Observational & Theoretical Cosmology (Plionis)

Group & Cluster of Galaxies physics (Plionis)

The application forms (in english) and instructions will soon be available at the above website.
