Educational Activities |
The Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics effectively performs a number of
educational activities. These activities are oriented to young astronomers, to teachers-physicists and to students from high schools, as well as to lower level schools.
|
| Postgraduate level research projects |
| |
A number of postgraduate research projects are
carried out in IAA lead by the researchers of the Institute, or in collaboration
with educational staff of Greek Universities.
|
| Practical Exercises Programme for Students |
| |
The Institute participates in the Programme for Practical
Exercises of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Physics of the National
Technical University of Athens. A number of Faculty's students have the
opportunity to carry out scientific exercises in IAA lead by the researchers
of the Institute.
|
| Astronomy seminars for high-school teachers |
| |
A program with talks on selected topics on modern
Astrophysics by the IAA researchers is presented each year, since 1997,
to teachers-physicists from high-schools from all over the Greece.
|
| Astronomy courses for high-school students |
| |
Regularly, since 1996, in the beginning of September each
year, the Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics, with the support of the Hellenic Ministry of Education and
Religious Affairs, organizes a few-day course for selected students from
high-schools of Athens, the Summer School
on Astrophysics of the IAA. During the school, which lasts three to four days, a cycle of lessons on modern Astrophysics is presented to the students. Additionally, they take part in exercises, prepared for the purpose, and finally, the students present the result of their work.
|
| Open days for schools to the facilities of the Institute |
| |
Students from more than 4000 high-schools
from all over the Greece have been guided by the Visitor
Center of IAA since its start in September 1995. The guidance
includes a General Astronomy lesson, video projections, and
visit to the 62.5 Newall refractor.
Special guidance tours are organised for schools in the
AS Krioneri.
These tours include visiting the 1.2m telescope.
